Quote from above:
"Do we protect minors from harmful drugs? From viewing R rated movies? From entering bars? Or from purchasing cigarrettes?
Of course we do.
Then why shouldn't we protect them from the vulgar obscenity that is running rampant on the Internet? "
Does that mean I can get porn on the internet? Why can`t I get beer or R rated movies via the net too. Oh hang on, scratch the last one.
Why can`t I download beer! Surely this is the last bastion of the net. Unbundle the local loop and plug us straight into the brewery.
Seriously though, what has porn ever done to harm mankind. (in america at least,) It`s a $10 billion industry that really has few casualties. Compare this to the $144 billion beer industry that keeps our hospitals full of drunkards injuring themselves and others, and our police cells full of violent criminals high on booze it is good clean fun.
So why are we not banning beer? Aparently someone did that already and just drove the problem underground, where the really nasty criminals took over the business with protection raquets, thugs and other such problems.
Did no-one think of telling the anti-porn league that?

My tupence worth
My sentiments exactly. The other thing is censorship is all to hell, you can let a 15 yr old watch 200 innocent civilians get slaughtered by a maniac with a machine gun in the latest action movie. A somewhat unatural and traumatic thing to occur. But you cannot let the same 15 yr old see the facts of life, how we reproduce, or in some cases in porn movies why some of us should never EVER reproduce. :D The mind boggles until you realise that it is all down to religion, the major religion in the UK and the US is christianity who, in their infinite stupidity, decided declaring war on people who "looked at them funny" was a far better idea than reproducing!July 24 2004, 14:08:09 UTC 7 years ago
